if you’re having trouble logging in, it may be because the school doesn’t have your current email and mobile phone number on record. please call the school and we’ll update the details on our system. we hope that you will find school gateway to be a fast and easy way to pay for school items. more sporting success !! last weekend lucas braved the snow and ice for an early 6am start to head down to crystal palace for the british schools biathlon national championships. lucas qualified to represent how wood in the championships last year in a race held in watford. in the year 6 competition, there were 140 competitors from state and private schools from all over the country. the first part of the competition was an 800m run on the track. because of the snow and ice, the organisers deemed it unsafe to hold this on the day, so they used the run times gained in qualification to keep things fair. it meant there was a 4 hour wait until the swim! finally, it was time for lucas to sprint a 50m front crawl. he did a new personal best time and came 2nd overall in the swim out of the 140 boys entered! there was an agonising wait for the final points to be added up to see if lucas had achieved his goal of a top 30 place. when the results were published, he was over the moon to find he’d come 13th in the country! a great result to be proud of! well done lucas on yet another fantastic sporting achievement! what a busy and exciting week we have had at how wood school with lots of events to celebrate and share! rugby tournament on thursday 8th march we took part in the schools rugby tournament at harpenden rugby club. our team played brilliantly and were named undefeated winners of their pool after playing 7 games where they won 6 and drew 1. well done to our amazing team : lucas, thomas and charlie from year 6 and sam, sophie, georgia and bella from year 5. here they are are ready for action! year 4 roman 'wow' day by jessica and surani "on roman day year 4 did roman numerals for maths. we made number sentences out of straws with the person next to us on our tables. we sang a song about roman numerals to help us learn. then we did role play about boudicca's army. a minute later we went outside with our shields and the girls threw balls at the boys when they were in a tortoise position! finally we had a big feast (if you got a short bit of spaghetti you were a slave otherwise you weren't a slave.) the slaves had to serve the rich people before they could eat. the slaves would hang the grapes over the rich persons head and the rich person would take the grapes and eat them!" how wood hurricanes win best in league!!! - a roving report by megan's dad. how wood netball team got renamed how wood hurricanes last weekend as they stormed through the netball tournament held at st.albans high school for girls, winning best in the league. coached by mrs croucher, the year 6 team, including sophie (year 5) played some fantastic netball and really played well together as a team. mya “rocket-shoes” lucas “ace-shooter”, megan “the giant”, jessica “darting dragonfly“, daisy “calm as a butterfly“, katja “spring-shoes“, castor “super-goalie “ and sophie “interceptor.” they were up against some tough competition from private schools with big squads and posh netball uniforms, but this didn’t worry them, how wood hurricanes were cheered on by supporters and they won through and through. they didn’t quite get enough points to get through to the final of the tournament, but came away with a trophy for best in the league after winning all o
